Nothing to do with anything

#1

Submitted by Roanman on Fri, 03/26/2010 - 15:57

Throughout the course of my life, I have competed at a number of different sports or events at the highest level that I was physically, or financially able.

I have played on championship teams.

I broke out and started a mare that finished 7th in the nation in her event, back to back years.

I cleaned the stall of a World Champion Cutting Horse.

Aside from that horse, I have never known anyone who has stood #1 in the nation at anything.

Until today.

With a score of 22,141, my wife,"The Little Wiffer" is leading the nation (quite possibly the world) for the week of March 22, 2010 in "Action Potato".

Imagine my pride!

Reading on a Saturday Afternoon

Ok, here's how it works.

I subscribe to almost never less than four, sometimes as many as eight or ten newsletters, sites or services having mostly to do with trading Stocks, Bonds, Currencies, Commodities, Options, ETFs, Royalty Trusts, MLPs, you name it.

After years of collecting sites, I also get a raft of email alerts from many of the legitimate news organizations out there, everything from the WSJ to Debka, as well as what is probably an unhealthy number of conspiracy mongers, doomsday prognosticators and/or just plain haters.

I collect this stuff all week, plus whatever comes my way from friends.

Then I sit in my office on Saturday, skim damn near every word of it and actually read a no kidding 20%.

OK, Ok, more like 10%.

Searching of course for the occasional blinding revelation to advance my business or to trade with.

After which I have typically shared that revelation with my friends, mostly because like everybody else, I like people to think I'm a lot smarter than I really am.

So anyway.

Today I get to the end of all that crap and ............................................ nothing.

Not a damn thing!!!!!

Emptiness.

Finally it occurred to me to wonder,

"Is there any good Dance Hall Crashers video out there?"

"A little Third Wave Ska beat?"

Yes!!!!!

This is Elyse Rogers, (the almost incredibly adorable, and strangely coiffed) Karina Denike', Jason and Gavin Hammond on lead guitar and drums respectively, Mikey Weiss on bass, and Billy Bouchard on the second guitar.

The Dance Hall Crashers.

About 1998 ... ish.

Lost Again.

We (actually I) get requests

Submitted by Roanman on Fri, 03/05/2010 - 06:54

Usually I ignore em.

But, what the heck.

Seemingly, people like Little Feat a lot better than they like reading about their impending doom.

Go figure.

So anyway, a request was phoned in.

It was pretty much phrased as follows.

What else ya got?

Well?

I got Sam and Dave live, fronting Booker T Jones, Duck Dunn, and Steve Cropper along with a pretty smokin horn section made up of (I think) Ed Logan, Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love.

I couldn't figure out the drums.

From the 1966 Stax-Volt European Tour

Hold On, I'm Comin.

Should'a had a better lawyer.

From David Michaels at MercoPress

Russian billionaire looses 53 million USD deposit on villa purchase

(Looses?)

Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov lost 53 million US dollars deposit on a 530 million USD villa in southern France after a court ruled Tuesday that he failed to complete the purchase.

The moral to this story of course being;

In the event that the deposit is forfeited, we agree that That Lying, Greedy, No Good Broker, That Didn't Do Jack Shit On This Deal Anyway, Inc. shall retain one half ( ½ ) of the deposit, but not in an amount in excess of the full commission, as full payment for services rendered.

 I believe that's how it's done.

A small respite for my friend Kathleen

Submitted by Roanman on Tue, 02/02/2010 - 15:40

Kathleen is suffering from political overload and is becoming more depressed every day.

I don't blame her a bit.

I've seen this one go by two or three times.

It has nothing to do with anything, except that I like it.

This is Perpetuum Jazzile performing a rainstorm.

This bit serves as the introduction to their version of Africa by Toto.

The entire performance is here.

Personally, I like the thunder.

You can crank it up a little, it isn't loud.

Start it then stop it and wait.  It takes a minute to load.

People can be remarkably clever sometimes.

OK Kathleen, you should stop here !!!!!
